Popped into Cafe 34 for lunch with some work colleagues. It’s really grown into a prominent spot in Queanbeyan now, it’s always busy and they’re always updating their menu. Today I got something I hadn’t seen on the menu before, steamed buns. Think fried chicken bao? I also got a summer juice and on recommendation took a chocolate cannoli back to the office for later.

The steam buns were alright, given the majority of the cuisine there is Turkish inspired it was a bit of an unexpected choice. The buns themselves were a bit average, they were mostly soft but two of my three had a slight crust around the edges. The chicken was very crispy and while tasty I wouldn’t have begrudged a juicy piece of meat. The slaw mix was great, really fresh and went well with the flavours. The sauce was a bit odd but I liked it; it was almost like the stock standard dead horse mixed with gochujang instead of sriracha (what I could consider the standard).

The joooce was pretty nice, watermelon as the base and then some summer fruits mixed in. I’d get it again. Lastly, we have the cannoli. Mid recommendation we found out that they sadly weren’t made in-store but shipped down every Tuesday/Thursday from Sydney. This day being a Tuesday I thought we had hit the jackpot personally. But after giving back to the office and having a taste, while the custard was really nice (not too sweet, good chocolate flavour, good texture), the shells were a bit soft which was almost disheartening. I love the crunch.
Overall it wasn’t bad but wasn’t their best. I know I will return but probably go back to the known favourites target than the new kid on the block item.
